Mixing touchscreens and joysticks to deliver high quality space themed exhibits to Dark Skies Visitor Centre in Kirkcudbright
Building on our success in providing digital interactives for their Idea No. 59 gallery, Glasgow Science Centre again commissioned Four to produce a suite of kiosks to help furnish the new visitor centre in the town of Kirkcudbright. The town sits on the edge of one of the Galloway Dark Sky Park (the first in the UK), an area with an exceptional and protected view of space in the night sky. Capitalising on this the theme of the new visitor centre is space. The centre is full of activities and games to engage families and visitors of all ages in learning and understanding space. Four have produced a suite of interactive exhibits, in close collaboration with the Centre and with installation teams. The exhibits are a mixture of touchscreen, electro-mechanical, and animations. The topics vary, from animations explaining why the seasons change, videos exploring rocket launches, to games challenging visitors to land a ship on the moon. You even get to explore around the inside of the International Space Station, with a 360O virtual tour filled with images and videos. Our designers, project management and development teams brought their wealth of experience to created and refine the game play, and liaise with scientific advisors to blend accuracy, durability, and fun. Full configurability built into the system means museum staff can update content or the difficulty of games themselves.
